Schaffer Heights is a Public Housing Development. This community has 75 units including: 70 - one bedroom units - 546 Sq. Ft., and 5 - two bedroom units - 597 Sq. Ft. The air-conditioned units feature a living room, dining area, kitchen, spacious bedroom and large closets. A laundry facility and recreation room are located onsite. The site opened in 1983 and was named in honor of Commisioner Gerald Schaffer. In 1989, Schaffer Heights received National and Regional “Project Design Awards” from National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials. The excellent centralized location, just north of Desert Inn off of Pecos McLeod, offers easy access to the Boulevard Mall, grocery stores, drug stores, banks, hospitals, and bus routes. The Winchester Community Center is within walking distance across street.
